Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Thursday extended warm greetings to the people on the occasion of Mahavir Jayanti.

He emphasized that the life of Lord Mahavir offers timeless lessons in compassion, peace, truth, nonviolence, sacrifice, love, and self-restraint.

Taking to social media platform X, CM Dhami shared a heartfelt message reflecting the spiritual essence of the day.

"Congratulations and best wishes to all the people of the state on the birth anniversary of Lord Mahavir Swami Ji. The principles of truth, non-violence, compassion and restraint given by Lord Mahavir will always illuminate the lives of all of us. His teachings will always inspire us to follow the path of religion, sacrifice and humanity," he posted.

Mahavir Jayanti is celebrated to honour the birth of Lord Mahavir, born in 615 BC into a royal family and named Vardhamana in his early years. At the age of 30, Vardhamana renounced his princely life to embark on a spiritual quest for truth and enlightenment. After 12 years of intense meditation and austerity in the forest, he attained ‘Kevala Jnana’—absolute knowledge—and went on to spread the teachings of Jainism.

Lord Mahavir, revered as the 24th Tirthankara of Jainism, is celebrated globally for his messages of peace, harmony, and nonviolence. Jain communities across the world mark Mahavir Jayanti with devotion, observing rituals such as prayers at Jain temples, processions, hymns, fasting, acts of charity, and cultural events.

The festival not only celebrates his birth but also underscores the enduring relevance of Jainism and its principles in contemporary times. The message of ‘Ahinsa Parmo Dharma’ (non-violence is the highest virtue) continues to hold deep significance in promoting global harmony and compassion.
