The Uttar Pradesh Matikala Board has recorded a remarkable rise in the marketing of the state’s artisans and handicraft products through fairs organized in the financial year 2025-26.
During this period, the Board organized a 10-day Matikala Mahotsav, 7-day Regional Matikala Fairs, and 3-day Small Matikala Fairs.
A total of 691 stalls were set up in all these fairs, generating sales of ₹4,20,46,322. This is ₹91,17,912 more than the total sales of ₹3,29,28,410 recorded in the previous financial year 2024-25, reflecting an increase of approximately 27.7 percent.
It is noteworthy that Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s greatest focus is on the progress of artisans working in traditional crafts and industries.
Various efforts are being made to ensure that their products find buyers on a large scale both in the state and across the country and abroad, and the Matikala Board is making significant contributions in this regard.
Large-Scale Purchases Across 70 Districts
During the 10-day Matikala Mahotsav held at Khadi Bhavan in Lucknow from 10 to 19 October 2025, sales of ₹1,22,41,700 were recorded through 56 stalls.
In the 7-day regional fairs held in Gorakhpur, Agra, Kanpur Dehat, and Moradabad from 13 to 19 October, sales of ₹78,84,410 were made through 126 stalls. Similarly, during the 3-day Small Matikala Fairs organized in 70 districts of the state from 17 to 19 October, sales of ₹2,19,20,212 were recorded through 509 stalls.
Collaboration and Product Quality as Key to Positive Results
In the fairs organized during the financial year 2024-25, a total of 878 stalls recorded sales of ₹3,29,28,410.
Although the total number of stalls was lower this year, the increase in sales indicates that product quality, exhibition arrangements, and marketing cooperation were more effective. This also clearly shows that public awareness and attraction toward Matikala products are continuously increasing.
The Matikala Board aims to provide long-term economic empowerment to artisans through continuous fairs, improved exhibition management, training, design development, and branding activities. In the coming sessions, organizing more consumer-based programs will ensure increased productivity, marketing efficiency, and income growth for artisans.
Traditional Art Preserved Through Yogi Government’s Initiatives
To preserve and promote the art of traditional artisans and craftsmen, enhance their social security, economic stability, technical development, and marketing facilities, and provide employment opportunities through innovation, the Yogi government has established the Uttar Pradesh Matikala Board.
Through this initiative, not only has traditional Matikala gained a new identity, but thousands of families have also obtained a new foundation for self-reliance.
The Yogi government has provided an important facility to all members of the Prajapati community associated with the Matikala industry: the arrangement to extract clay from village ponds has been made free of cost. This has made raw materials for production accessible to artisans and significantly reduced their costs.
These steps show that the Yogi government is not only preserving traditional crafts but is also aiming to take them to a global platform through modern marketing, training, and innovation.
Artisans Benefiting from Comprehensive Support of Yogi Government
The CEO and General Manager of Khadi & Gramodyog Matikala Board stated that as a result of the comprehensive support of the Yogi government and the Board’s targeted efforts, artisans have received opportunities to directly connect with consumers.
He said that buyers attending the fairs enthusiastically adopted local crafts and traditional products, which increased artisans’ incomes and strengthened the brand value of Matikala products.
He further stated that in the coming years, the scope of these fairs will be expanded, and similar events will be organized in more districts so that the state’s Matikala products can connect with national and international markets.
