Two BSF Personnel Injured in Cattle Smugglers' Attack at India-Bangladesh Border

Shillong, Jul 16 (PTI) Two BSF personnel were injured following an attack by suspected cattle smugglers near the India-Bangladesh border in Meghalaya's East Jaintia Hills district, officials revealed on Wednesday. The incident occurred near the Khasimara river in the early morning hours of July 12. According to an FIR lodged with the Meghalaya Police, around 30 to 40 cattle heads, accompanied by nearly 20 individuals on the Bangladeshi side, were spotted by the BSF personnel. Upon being challenged, the group, joined by another cluster of approximately 40 to 50 individuals from Bangladesh, attempted to cross into Indian territory and began hurling stones at the BSF personnel. As a result, two BSF jawans sustained injuries. For self-defense, the BSF troops fired several warning shots and blank rounds to deter the attackers. Following this, the miscreants escaped, and BSF personnel managed to recover 13 cattle heads. An investigation is currently in progress.
