Police Investigation Uncovers Potential Terror Plot at Red Fort

New Delhi, Nov 12 (PTI)— In a significant development, Dr. Muzammil Ganaie, considered a key suspect in the recently uncovered white-collar terror operation, has been found to have conducted multiple reconnaissance missions in the Red Fort area this past January. This information comes from an analysis of mobile dump data by the police. They suspect that these reconnaissance visits were part of a broader scheme to attack the historic site on January 26. The plan might have been thwarted due to heightened patrol activities in the area during that time.

A senior police officer, speaking on the condition of anonymity, revealed that ongoing analysis of data extracted from Dr. Muzammil's mobile phone showed his frequent presence around the Red Fort area during the first week of January. The officer added that these visits were likely part of detailed preparations for an attack planned for January 26.

Alongside his associate, Dr. Umar Nabi, Dr. Muzammil reportedly visited the Red Fort multiple times to assess security measures and analyze crowd patterns. Their movements were verified through tower location data and CCTV footage obtained from nearby locations.

Investigators are currently delving into Dr. Muzammil's communications and digital trails to trace the funding sources for the module's endeavors and uncover where they acquired their explosives. Authorities are also determining if other suspects conducted similar reconnaissance missions or provided logistical assistance to those apprehended.

Further investigations have led to the collection of Dr. Umar's mobile dump data to ascertain if he was in communication with any contacts just prior to the recent explosion. On Monday evening, a devastating high-intensity explosion originating from a slow-moving vehicle rocked the area surrounding the Red Fort metro station, resulting in the tragic loss of 12 lives and leaving many others wounded.

The case has now been officially transferred to the National Investigation Agency for thorough investigation.
