Punjab Vigilance Bureau nabs PSPCL engineer for accepting bribe

The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB), as part of its ongoing anti-corruption drive, arrested Kuldeep Singh, a Junior Engineer (J.E.) at the Punjab State Power Corporation Ltd (PSPCL) office in Cheema Chowk, Ludhiana. The accused was caught red-handed while accepting a Rs 5,000 bribe, the second instalment of a Rs 15,000 deal.

According to an official spokesperson, the arrest followed a complaint lodged by Jaswinder Pal Singh, a resident of Ram Nagar, Shingar Road, Ludhiana. The complainant alleged that Kuldeep Singh had demanded a bribe of Rs 36,000 for installing a new electricity meter at his tea stall. The amount was later negotiated to Rs 15,000, of which Rs 10,000 had already been paid as the first instalment. Despite this, the meter installation remained pending, and the accused continued to demand the remaining Rs 5,000.

Acting on the complaint, the VB conducted a preliminary enquiry and laid a trap. The accused was apprehended from his office while accepting the bribe in the presence of two official witnesses. A case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against him at the VB Police Station, Ludhiana Range.

The spokesperson confirmed that Kuldeep Singh would be presented before a competent court on Thursday, and further investigations are underway. This arrest highlights the Vigilance Bureau’s commitment to cracking down on corruption and ensuring accountability in public service.
