Punjab CM announces events for 350th martyrdom day of Guru Teg Bahadur, plans tourism boost

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Monday announced that the state government will organize a series of events to commemorate the upcoming 350th martyrdom day of the ninth Sikh Guru, Sri Guru Teg Bahadur Ji.

While chairing a review meeting of the Tourism department, the Chief Minister shared that the state government would observe the 350th martyrdom day of Sri Guru Teg Bahadur Ji on a large scale. A series of functions would be held across the state, and comprehensive development of places associated with the Guru would be ensured. Bhagwant Singh Mann instructed the Tourism department to prepare a detailed program for the events to mark the martyrdom day.

The Chief Minister emphasized that Guru Teg Bahadur Ji had sacrificed his life to protect the right to worship and preserve human and secular values. He described the Guru’s supreme sacrifice as unparalleled in history, symbolizing the fight against tyranny and oppression. Bhagwant Singh Mann added that Guru Teg Bahadur Ji’s sacrifice was pivotal in preserving human rights in India.

Reaffirming the government’s commitment to boosting tourism, the Chief Minister also approved the organization of the "Rangla Punjab" festival in February. The festival aims to showcase Punjab as a top global tourist destination, highlighting its rich cultural legacy and beautiful attractions. Bhagwant Singh Mann stated that the festival would contribute to the state’s socio-economic development by opening new employment opportunities for the youth, promoting tourism, and enhancing the state’s economy.

The Chief Minister further approved plans for heritage festivals across the state to preserve Punjab’s glorious cultural heritage. He instructed the Tourism and Cultural department to create a calendar of events to celebrate these festivals annually on a grand scale.

Additionally, Bhagwant Singh Mann proposed the construction of ultra-modern convention centers in major cities like Amritsar, Ludhiana, and New Chandigarh, modeled after Pragati Maidan. These centers would feature arenas, hotels, shopping malls, and more, supporting tourism by hosting major events and performances by renowned international artists.

The Chief Minister also directed the department to develop the Ranjit Sagar Dam, Shahpur Kandi Dam, and Kandi areas as potential tourist destinations, which could attract visitors from around the world.

Meanwhile, the Chief Minister expressed his satisfaction with the trial run of Punjab’s first boutique hotel in Quilla Mubarak. He stated that the hotel, built on a PPP model, would set new standards for comfort, hospitality, and elegance, becoming a popular venue for destination weddings and other events.
