Power consumption in Punjab skyrockets amid intense cold

After an extended period of overcast skies and intense cold, power consumption in the first three weeks of January surged by 10.6% compared to the same period last year in the state, a report by the Tribune said.

According to data from the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL), power demand increased from 32,047 million units in January 2023 to 35,451 million units this year.

The daily maximum power demand reached a new peak of 9,461 MW, reflecting a notable rise from last January's 9,051 MW. Despite technical glitches, the PSPCL managed to meet the increased demand, ensuring uninterrupted power supply for agriculture and industry needs.

The average daily power supply from state thermal plants during this period ranged between 206 to 307 lakh units.
