Punjab Finance Minister Cheema criticizes opposition leader Bajwa

In a sharp rebuke to recent remarks made by Leader of the Opposition Partap Singh Bajwa, Punjab Finance Minister Advocate Harpal Singh Cheema on Sunday asserted that Bajwa, as a constitutional officeholder, is obligated to share any credible information he holds with the Punjab Police to safeguard the state's security.

Minister Cheema expressed grave concerns over Bajwa’s comments, suggesting they may hint at troubling connections with smugglers and Pakistani entities aiming to destabilize Punjab’s peace and order.

Cheema criticized the remarks as being made in bad faith, portraying a troubling lapse in Bajwa’s political acumen and judgement.

Cheema has called on Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann to launch an in-depth investigation into Bajwa’s statement and to pursue legal action if warranted.

He also urged Bajwa to act with greater responsibility, emphasizing that both the opposition and the state government share an equal burden in preserving Punjab’s peace and harmony.

"This is a time to confront anti-Punjab forces together, rather than undermine the police and the public with unfounded and reckless remarks," Cheema stated.
