Key decisions on tackling the job placement backlog for Divyang individuals and ensuring strict adherence to the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016 were taken.

Cabinet sub-committee to discuss legitimate demands of divyang persons

The Cabinet Sub-Committee held a meeting today with the representatives of the Punjab Divyang Action Committee at Punjab Bhawan, Chandigarh. The cabinet sub-committee meeting was chaired by Finance and Planning Minister Advocate Harpal Singh Cheema. Social Security, Women and Child Development Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur and Administrative Reforms and NRI Affairs Minister Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal, met with representatives of divyang associations to consider their legitimate demands and resolve them sympathetically.

The representatives of the Punjab Divyang Action Committee presented various demands before the Cabinet Sub-Committee for the welfare and facilities of divyang persons. Many demands have been accepted by the government and the representatives have been assured that their demands will receive positive consideration in the future.

The cabinet sub-committee assured the representatives of the Punjab Divyang Action Committee that the backlog in Divyang persons' job placements will be addressed promptly, with action already initiated.

During the meeting, the Cabinet Sub-Committee directed officials to effectively implement the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016, in Punjab. They emphasized that due benefits, rights and respect should be given to Divyang persons, strictly following the Act's instructions. Discrimination against Divyang persons, women, and children is prohibited and all institutions must reserve at least four percent of total vacancies for Divyang persons.

The cabinet sub-committee also instructed Punjab Police and higher officials to take stern action to prevent any persecution of divyang persons
