278 flying squads to curb cheating in Punjab school board exams

To prevent cheating in board examinations for Classes 8, 10, and 12, the Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) has deployed 278 flying squads, each consisting of three members, announced Punjab's School Education Minister, Harjot Singh Bains.

Reaffirming the Punjab government’s commitment under Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann to ensuring fair examinations, the minister stated that these squads would be led by District Education Officers (DEOs), Principals, PSEB members, and members of the Board’s Academic Councils. Their role will be to conduct surprise inspections at examination centers to curb malpractice.

He further directed senior department officials to carry out surprise visits, particularly in schools located in border areas, to prevent any irregularities during the examinations. He emphasized that strict adherence to rules is essential to creating a fair and just environment for all students.

Highlighting the scale of the examinations, Harjot Singh Bains noted that over 8.82 lakh students would be appearing for the board exams in the state. He stressed that these exams play a crucial role in shaping students’ educational futures and reiterated the government's commitment to maintaining the integrity of the examination process.

The introduction of flying squads and surprise inspections is a key measure to ensure academic honesty is upheld.

Encouraging students to rely on hard work rather than shortcuts, he emphasized that true success is achieved through dedication and consistent effort rather than dishonest means.

He urged students to embrace challenges in their academic journey, as doing so would help them develop essential skills and knowledge for their future.

Beyond passing exams, he pointed out that education is also about personal growth and character development. Choosing diligence over dishonesty not only enhances academic abilities but also fosters qualities like resilience, discipline, and integrity—traits that are valuable in all aspects of life.

He concluded by extending his best wishes to students for a bright and fulfilling future.
