PM Modi invokes 'parivarwad' to hit at KCR, CM's party asks who is Jay Shah

On allegations of promoting dynastic politics, KCR's party TRS responded sharply asking the PM why Home Minister Amit Shah's son was at the helm of Indian cricket

Hinting at the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samiti, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Thursday that it was time for the people of Telangana to do away with dynasty politics.

Addressing party workers at an event organised by the Telangana BJP unit at Begumpet Airport in Hyderabad, Modi said: “Family politics does not allow enthusiastic youths to enter politics. They are deprived of opportunities. This is the 21st century and we should do away with dynasty politics in Telangana too. Wherever dynasty politics has been wiped out, there has been development and growth. Family politics is a threat to democracy, and as soon as a ‘parivari party’ comes to power, they become corrupt. The family tries to hold on to power for as long as possible."

His attack invoked a sharp rebuke from Telangana chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao. "There has been enough bhaashanbaazi (speeches) and promises but the situation in the country has been getting worse. The economy is suffering. Farmers, Dalits and tribals are unhappy," KCR said as for the second time in the last four months he avoided meeting Modi.

KCR has been meeting with opposition leaders across the country in his efforts to consolidate a front to take on the BJP in the 2024 national election.

On allegations of promoting dynastic politics, KCR's party spokesperson Krishank Manne said, "PM only spoke about parivarwaad. If that is the case, then who is Jay Shah (Union Home Minister Amit Shah's son) to lead cricket of India? They should expel Rajnath Singh and his son also if they do not believe in parivarwaad. Speak about Telangana?" Jay Shah is the Secretary of India's top cricket governing body Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and also the son of Home Minister Amit Shah.
