Only 30% of stolen weapons recovered so far in Manipur: Army chief Manoj Pande

Indian Army chief Gen Manoj Pande on Thursday said that only 30 per cent of the weapons stolen during the Manipur violence have been recovered so far.

Speaking during the annual press conference in New Delhi, Gen Pande said that the attempts to recover the missing weapons are still ongoing.

"The challenge is that only 30% of the missing weapons have been recovered so far. The attempt to recover the remaining weapons in concert with other armed police forces is currently ongoing. Our deployments in Manipur are synergised and are in coordination with the state administration," he said.

Providing an update on the border situation, he said that the Line of Actual Control in eastern Ladakh is ”stable” but ”sensitive”, and asserted that Indian troops are maintaining a ”high state” of preparedness to deal with any challenge.

Gen Pande also said that both India and China continue to hold talks at military and diplomatic levels to find a resolution to the remaining issues.

Our operational preparedness continues to be at a high level, he said, noting that the Indian Army is maintaining adequate reserves to confront any security challenge in the region.

Indian and Chinese troops are locked in an over three-year confrontation in certain friction points in eastern Ladakh even as the two sides completed disengagement from several areas following extensive diplomatic and military talks.
