Madhya Pradesh achieves historic export growth in 2024-25

Madhya Pradesh has achieved its highest-ever export valuing at ₹66,218 crores in the financial year 2024–25, improving its national export ranking. The 6% growth in exports is mainly due to increased exports in pharmaceuticals, engineering goods, and soy-based products.

According to the latest report by the Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO), merchandise exports contributed ₹66,218 crores, while IT companies operating in Special Economic Zones (SEZs) contributed ₹4,038 crores to the state’s export portfolio. Due to economic growth in these sectors, Madhya Pradesh’s national export ranking improved from 15th to 11th.

The report highlights that the state improved its global market position in exports due to growth in pharmaceuticals, engineering goods, and soy-based agricultural products. The Investment freindly industrial development policies, expanding industrial base, and improved export-oriented infrastructure have been listed as key drivers of growth. Additionally, the growing interest of international markets in Madhya Pradesh also played a significant role.

Last year, the top five export sectors from Madhya Pradesh were pharmaceuticals, animal feed, machinery, aluminum, and textiles. The major export markets include Bangladesh, France, UAE, and the Netherlands, while the United States remains the largest market for the state’s pharmaceutical and machinery exports.

In 2024–25, Madhya Pradesh exported ₹11,968 crores of pharmaceuticals,₹6,062 crores of animal feed, ₹4,795 crores of aluminum, ₹4,656 crores of textiles, ₹5,497 crores of machinery.

Exports from the state have been consistently increasing over the past six years. It was ₹37,692 crores in 2019–20, ₹47,959 crores in 2020–21, ₹58,407 crores in 2021–22, ₹65,878 crores in 2022–23, ₹65,255 crores in 2023–24 and ₹66,218 crores in 2024–25. These include exports from SEZs.

Dhar district ranked first in exports with ₹17,830 crores, followed by Indore with ₹13,500 crores, focusing on pharmaceutical, automation, and food processing sectors. Ujjain also broke its previous record with exports of ₹2,288 crores, comprising industrial, agriculture-based, and processed food products.

This achievement has been made possible due to the state government's focus on industrial development and strengthening trade relations, which not only supports Madhya Pradesh’s economic aspirations but also enhances its contribution to the nation’s total exports.
