Kashmir cold wave: Snowfall expected, temperatures drop

Kashmir is experiencing an intensified cold wave with temperatures dropping across the valley. Light snowfall is predicted from Jan 17-19, followed by widespread snowfall on Jan 22. Srinagar and Gulmarg temperatures dip to -4.8°C and -7.4°C.

Kashmir cold wave: Snowfall expected, temperatures drop

The cold wave in Kashmir has intensified as night temperatures across the valley continue to drop. The Meteorological Department forecasted light snowfall in the region on Thursday and predicted generally cloudy weather from January 17-19. However, no significant changes are expected during this period.

Tourists were seen capturing photos of icicles formed from a water pipe leak in Tangmarg, Baramulla, on Wednesday. The weather department has also forecasted wet conditions starting January 20, with widespread snowfall expected on January 22.

On January 17, the minimum temperature in Srinagar dropped to minus 4.8°C, from the previous night’s minus 4.1°C. The popular ski destination of Gulmarg recorded a minimum of minus 7.4°C, down from minus 6.2°C.

Other areas also experienced cold temperatures, with Pahalgam, a base camp for the Amarnath Yatra, registering minus 8.4°C. Qazigund saw minus 5.4°C, Konibal in Pampore had minus 6.4°C, while Kupwara and Kokernag recorded minus 4.7°C and minus 4.6°C, respectively.
