Supreme Court Collegium Names Justice Chandrashekhar for Bombay HC Chief Justice Role

New Delhi, Aug 26 (PTI) In a significant development, the Supreme Court collegium has put forward the recommendation for Justice Shree Chandrashekhar to be appointed as the Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court. Justice Chandrashekhar, who currently serves as a judge in the Bombay High Court, originally hails from the Jharkhand High Court in terms of his parent court.

During its meeting convened on August 25, the Supreme Court collegium, led by the Chief Justice, endorsed Justice Chandrashekhar’s nomination. Alongside the Chief Justice, Justices Surya Kant and Vikram Nath were also part of this three-member collegium. In a simultaneous decision, the collegium approved the appointment of six additional judges as permanent judges in the Bombay High Court.

The judges set to be made permanent are Justice Sanjay Anandrao Deshmukh, Justice Vrushali Vijay Joshi, Justice Abhay Jainarayanji Mantri, Justice Shyam Chhaganlal Chandak, Justice Neeraj Pradeep Dhote, and Justice Somasekhar Sundaresan. These appointments mark an important progression in the judiciary.

Furthermore, in the Kerala High Court, the collegium agreed on the appointment of three additional judges as permanent judges. The judges are Justice Johnson John, Justice Gopinathan Unnithan Girish, and Justice Chellappan Nadar Pratheep Kumar.
