'Have lots of kids, PM will build houses': Rajasthan minister tells women | Watch

While several parliamentarians of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have been pressing the Union government to bring a population control bill, a Rajasthan minister from the saffron party-ruled state came into the spotlight after he encouraged women to give birth to more children, assuring them that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will build houses for them all.

While addressing a gathering in Udaipur, Kharadi, the tribal area development minister in the state, said, "It is the dream of the Prime Minister to see that nobody sleeps hungry or without a roof over their head. You give birth to children, Prime Minister (Modi) will build your houses. What is the difficulty?...

He made the remarks in the presence of Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma on Tuesday in Nai village at a Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra camp. The suggestion evoked laughter among the people, while those on the stage were left bewildered.

The minister then appealed to the people to vote for Prime Minister Modi again in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and said that the government is taking various welfare measures for the people.

Who is Khardi?
Kharadi, a minister in the Bhajanlal government, won from the Jhadol assembly constituency of Udaipur district during the recently concluded assembly polls for the fourth time. He comes from a tribal community.

Notably, the Rajasthan minsiter has two wives and eight children—four boys and girls each. He lives in Kotra, Udaipur.

Kharadi was inducted as a Cabinet Minister in the newly formed BJP government in the state on December 30.
