The G20 Summit is set to kick off in New Delhi on September 9-10. Widespread restrictions have been rolled to ensure the safety of the world leaders attending the summit.

G20 summit: frequently asked questions on Delhi restrictions answered

G20-related restrictions in New Delhi will kick in starting Thursday, as per safety protocols set by authorities. However, the Delhi Police has clarified that there will not be any lockdown-like situation.

Most restrictions are in the New Delhi district

Delhi Metro will also remain operational, with the exception of the Supreme Court station.

Authorities have curbed all food deliveries in the New Delhi district between September 9-10. However, essential services like delivery of medicine and collection of medical samples will be allowed.

Here are some frequently asked questions about how G20 will disrupt daily services in Delhi:

Q) What are the traffic restrictions?

A) The restrictions will come into affect from 00:00 hours on the intervening night of September 7 and 8 to 23:59 hours on September 10. However, heavy, medium and light goods vehicles will not be allowed to enter Delhi from 9 p.m. on September 7.

Q) Will essential services be available?

A) Yes. Most essential services will be available in New Delhi despite the high-profile meeting. Delhi Police have clarified that “all medical shops, grocery shops, milk booths, vegetable/fruit shops will remain open throughout Delhi including New Delhi.”

Q)What if I live in a restricted area?

A) Those carrying legitimate proof of residence of a restricted area will be permitted to travel to their destination. ”Bonafide residents & authorized vehicles will be allowed to move within New Delhi District,” the Delhi Police website said.

Q) Can I travel to the airport or train station?

A) Those wishing to travel to New Delhi’s IGI Airport or New Delhi Railway Station have been advised to plan their journeys as per traffic permissions. Officials also urged travellers to use the metro services.

Q) Will cab services be available during G20?

A) Cab services will be disrupted in the New Delhi district between 5:00 a.m. on September 9 to midnight on September 10. However, you will be allowed to travel to the airport, railway station or bus stand on producing tickets.

“There is no restriction on the movement of private vehicles and cabs. People can go to the airport, railway station or wherever they want. We are just asking them to budget for some extra time because of the traffic restrictions that will be in place in certain pockets,” DCP (traffic) Virender Vij told Times of India.
