Fashion designer Wendell Rodricks died at his Goa home after suffering a heart attack on Wednesday. An author, environmental activist, and a vocal advocate for LGBTQ rights, Rodricks was conferred with India's fourth-highest civilian award, the Padma Shri in 2014. Known for pioneering the idea of resort wear and for advocating eco-friendly fashion, he bid goodbye to the runway, after over two decades in the fashion industry in 2016.
Goa health minister Vishwajit Rane tweeted: “Deeply saddened to hear about the sudden demise of my very good friend and designer, Wendell Rodricks. His excellency in his work & skills are irreplaceable & shall always be cherished. We will truly miss him. My heartfelt condolences to his family & dear ones.”
