Many feared that the batsman in him may be dying out but Ravichandran Ashwin proved his critics wrong and slammed his 5th Test hundred. After taming England with the ball in the 1st innings, Ashwin did the trick with the bat as well. He has now achieved the double of a 5-fer and a century in a single Test 3 times, with only Ian Botham ahead of him. Ashwin walked in with India in a vulnerable position at 106/6 and proved to be a willing ally for Virat Kohli. He was aggressive from the word go and took the pressure off his skipper. After Virat got out, the local lad took the onus of scoring runs upon himself and courtesy of 106, he helped India set England a mammoth target of 482.
