The Maharashtra government is most likely to announce a complete lockdown as the state reels under a worrying surge in daily numbers of Covid-19 cases.
Fearing possible collapse of healthcare system due to unprecedented spike in infections, Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope said all cabinet ministers have requested Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray to announce a statewide lockdown. There are indications that Thackeray would announce a decision on Wednesday.
Maharashtra is already facing a shortage in the supply of medical oxygen. The state government has also decided to cancel the state board exams for Class 10, keeping health and safety of students and teachers at topmost priority.
