After Mumbai reeled under bed shortage in private hospitals over the weekend, BMC on Monday reiterated its policy on managing hospital beds for Covid patients. BMC said 80% of the total Covid beds and 100% of ICU beds in private hospitals will be allotted by BMC. The civic body said no asymptomatic, Covid-positive patients without any co-morbidity, will be allotted Covid beds in any public, private hospital to ensure prompt availability of beds to the needy. It further instructed hospitals to urgently discharge an asymptomatic Covid patient in order to vacate beds. It has also instructed all the facilities to activate the maximum beds in order to accommodate increasing number of Covid patients.
