Replace red meat with plant foods to cut cardiovascular disease risk

Substituting red meats like beef, pork and lamb with nutritious plant-based foods such as beans, nuts, or soy may help you reduce your risk of developing coronary heart disease (CHD), finds a study. 

Published in BMJ, the research found processed red meat, such as bacon, hot dogs, sausages and salami, are associated with an increased risk of death and major chronic diseases.

The study of 51,529 American males, however, does not explain how populations with lower red meat consumption, such as Indians, may still have high cardiovascular disease risk.
