BCCI set to lose big after failing to insure the IPL

Apr 19, 2020 12:48 IST

The BCCI is set to face massive losses if the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League is cancelled as the Indian cricket board has failed to insure this year’s IPL against cancellation due to a pandemic. By March, when the BCCI got in touch with their insurance company to get the cover for this year’s IPL, the company had omitted COVID-19 from their coverage clause. The franchises also get their personal covers but since WHO declared coronavirus as a pandemic, 90% of the franchises were not provided insurance. If the BCCI fails to find a new window for the cash rich league, total loss for all stakeholders may be around Rs 5,000 crore.
