Coffee may temporarily cut mental dysfunction of sleep loss: study

Drinking caffeinated coffee during the day helps reduce sleep loss-relation attention and cognitive dysfunction, suggest the findings of a new study. While this effect occurred in the first three-to-four days of restricted sleep, by the fifth and final day, no difference was seen between caffeinated and decaffeinated coffee drinkers, suggesting only a temporary benefit. The study was conducted with 26 participants carrying a distinct genotype who were randomly assigned caffeinated or non-caffeinated beverages. The research was primarily funded by the nonprofit Institute for Scientific Information on Coffee (ISIC).
