'My Boy Only Breaks His Favorite Toys': Taylor Swift reveals the meaning behind 'TTPD' song

Taylor Swift said that the song highlights how people act in denial when they're in love so that they can live in a world where there's still hope for a toxic relationship.

'My Boy Only Breaks His Favorite Toys': Taylor Swift reveals the meaning behind 'TTPD' song

Taylor Swift has revealed the meaning behind her new song 'My Boy Only Breaks His Favorite Toys' from her recently released album, 'The Tortured Poets Department'. If Swifties' theories are to be believed, the song is about Swift's alleged on-again, off-again relationship with Matty Healy.

What Taylor said:

In a breakdown of the song for Amazon Music, Taylor revealed that the track is from the “perspective of a child’s toy." She added, "It’s a metaphor from the perspective of a child’s toy; being somebody’s favorite toy until they break you and then don’t want to play with you anymore. Which is how a lot of us are in relationships where we are so valued by a person in the beginning, and then all of the sudden, they break us or they devalue us in their mind. We’re still clinging on to ‘No no, no. You should’ve seen them the first time they saw me. They’ll come back to that. They’ll get back to that."

Swift further added, "So it’s kind of like a song about denial really so that you could live in this world where there’s still hope for a toxic, broken relationship."

Matty Healy on his 'diss track'

The 1975 Frontman was recently approached by a pap in L.A. and was asked to rate the diss track dedicated to him by Taylor Swift. “My diss track?” Oh!” he said in a video shared by ET. “I haven’t really listened to that much of it, but I’m sure it’s good.” Earlier, his aunt, Debbie Dedes, shared her thoughts on her nephew inspiring a song in Swift’s double album. “She writes about all her relationships, doesn’t she? I don’t think it will come as a shock to him at all,” she told The Daily Mail, adding, “He’s very happy in his new relationship so I’m sure he will be focusing on that.”
