Jay Leno has surgery for burns from car fire, in good condition

US comedian Jay Leno underwent surgery for the severe facial burns he suffered after his car burst into flames in the garage of his Los Angeles house. According to his physician, he will undergo a second procedure later this week.

In a press conference, Dr. Peter Grossman, who is treating the former ‘Tonight Show Host,’ revealed that Leno was working underneath a vehicle when he was burned by gasoline fire on November 12.

He mentioned that when the comedian got pulled out from the area underneath the car, it was noted that he had pretty significant burns to his face and hands.

‘His burns include his face, his hands, and his chest, the burns are fairly significant,’ Grossman said.

Jay Leno’s wife Mavis is by his side.

According to Grossman, his injuries are a mixture of second-degree and possibly some third-degree burns.

‘Some of the burns to the face are a little deeper and a little more concerning. Right now they’re in that progression of somewhere between deep second and third-degree burns to the face. We’re hoping we can keep them from progressing by using these alternate treatments, including good wound care and hyperbaric oxygen and aggressive surgical management,’ he explained.

He added that Jay Leno’s injuries are serious, but his condition is good. Grossman said that Jay leno is walking around, cracking jokes, and is ‘incredibly kind’ to the hospital staff.
