Karnataka night curfew to end, Bengaluru schools to reopen | Covid

In a move that would bring cheer to the struggling hospitality industry, hotels, restaurants, clubs, pubs and bars would be allowed to function at full capacity, as per reports.

In a signal that the third wave in Karnataka might be waning, the state government reportedly announced its decision to withdraw night curfew from January 31. Schools and colleges in state capital Bengaluru would also be allowed to reopen from the same day, as per reports.

In a move that would bring cheer to the struggling hospitality industry, hotels, restaurants, clubs, pubs and bars would be allowed to function at full capacity. However, occupancy at theatres, auditoria, and multiplexes is capped at 50%. The same restriction applies to gyms and swimming pools, as per reports.

Marriages organised outdoors can have up to 300 guests, while indoor ceremonies can have up to 200 attendees. Religious places in the state have also been allowed to open with up to 50% capacity.

On January 28, Karnataka reported 31,198 new Covid infections, with Bengaluru accounting for 15,199. This was a significant decline from 38,083 new cases seen in the state a day earlier. The fall in daily cases was lower for Bengaluru, which saw 17,717 new infections on January 27. Fifty deaths were reported on January 28 in the state.
