Last year’s edition of the IPL brought in 600 million viewers, according to BCCI estimates

The great IPL Bazaar is going to be back but this time it is not players but broadcasters in the ring, ready for a challenge. The rights to broadcast IPL kicks off in June and the latest buzz suggests that Google parent Alphabet is also making a pitch for it.

Bloomberg reports quoting sources that the tech firm which also owns YouTube purchased the bid-related documents from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

So who else is in the stands waiting to take a swing? Reports indicate that global names such as Bezos founded Amazon, Walt Disney, Sony will face still competition from Mukesh Ambani backed Reliance and fantasy-sports platform Dream11. Though the information has not been made public reports indicate all these companies have signaled their interest by purchasing these information dockets from BCCI.

BCCI will be auctioning its broadcast and live streaming rights for the years 2023-2027 starting June 12.
