US ambassador-designate Sergio Gor says India to be invited as full member of PaxSilica next month

India will be invited to join the United States-led PaxSilica group of nations as a full member next month, US Ambassador-designate to India Sergio Gor announced on Monday, shortly after assuming charge. Gor is scheduled to present his credentials to the President of India later this week.

Speaking at an address following his assumption of office, the Ambassador said the United States has launched a new strategic initiative focused on strengthening the global silicon and semiconductor supply chain.

“I am pleased to announce that India will be invited to join PaxSilica as a full member next month,” Gor said.

Elaborating on the initiative, he added, “I also want to share with you today a new initiative that the United States launched just last month called PaxSilica. PaxSilica is a US-led strategic initiative to build a secure, prosperous, and innovation-driven silicon supply chain from critical minerals and energy inputs to advanced manufacturing, semiconductors, AI development, and logistics.”

According to Gor, the initiative aims to enhance cooperation among participating countries across the entire silicon value chain, from raw materials to advanced technologies and logistics. He noted that several countries have already joined the group.

“Nations that joined last month include Japan, South Korea, the United Kingdom, and Israel,” he said, adding that India’s inclusion would further strengthen the partnership.

The Ambassador said India’s proposed entry as a full member reflects its expanding role in global technology, manufacturing, and innovation ecosystems. The announcement comes soon after Gor assumed charge as the US Ambassador to India.

PaxSilica has been formed through partnerships with countries including Australia, Japan, South Korea, the United Kingdom, Singapore and Israel, with participating nations signing a declaration at the PaxSilica Summit in Washington, DC.

The initiative is aimed at building a secure, prosperous, and innovation-driven silicon supply chain, covering critical minerals, energy inputs, advanced manufacturing, semiconductors, artificial intelligence infrastructure, and logistics.

According to a statement from the US Department of State, PaxSilica seeks to reduce coercive dependencies, protect materials and capabilities foundational to artificial intelligence, and ensure that aligned nations can develop and deploy transformative technologies at scale.

“Pax Silica is a positive-sum partnership. It is not about isolating others—but about coordinating with partners who want to remain competitive and prosperous,” the Office of the Spokesperson of the US State Department said.

The US administration has stated that there is growing consensus among the United States and partner nations that securing supply chains, trusted technologies, and resilient infrastructure is essential for national power and long-term economic growth.
