The world's oldest grand slam tournament Wimbledon celebrated 100 years of its Centre Court on Sunday.
Wimbledon marked the centenary event with a musical performance and parade of former champions.
Eight-time Wimbledon champions Roger Federer, who is not playing this year due to a knee injury, was also present at the event along with stalwart Sir Cliff Richard, US tennis legend Billie Jean King, Rod Laver and Venus Williams during the Centre Court celebration on day seven of the Wimbledon tennis championships in London.
While giving a speech at the event, 40-year-old Federer said that it is great to be here with all the other champions.

Meanwhile, record nine-time Wimbledon champion Martina Navratilova missed the grand ceremony after contracting Covid-19.
Wimbledon moved to its present site in 1922, the same year Centre Court was opened. It was built in just nine months with a capacity of 14, 979.

Meanwhile, record nine-time Wimbledon champion Martina Navratilova missed the grand ceremony after testing positive for Covid-19.
Wimbledon moved to its present site in 1922, the same year Centre Court was opened. It was built in just nine months to hold a capacity crowd of around 15,000.

World number 1 Iga Swiatek failed to break Martina Hingis' 25-year-old record after she was knocked out of this year's Wimbledon tournament. She lost to French veteran Alize Cornet in the third round 4-6, 2-6. 
Both Hingis and Swiatek now hold the record of winning 37 matches in a row. Tennis veteran Hingis made the record in 1997.

Olympic Champion Neeraj Chopra finished second at the prestigious Diamond League meeting in Stockholm on Thursday.
Neeraj Chopra shattered the national record once again, recording a throw of 89.94m. He fell short of the coveted 90-metre mark by just 6 centimetres.
Making his first appearance in four years at the prestigious one-day meet, Chopra claimed the second spot with his personal best throw of 89.94 metres.
The 24-year-old had also finished second at the Paavo Nurmi Games with a previous best throw of 89.30m.
At the Kourtane Games, his throw of 86.60m was enough to fetch him a Gold in tough conditions.
But the Stockholm meet was the toughest event of the year since it was also the first time since Tokyo 2020 that all Olympic medalists from his event were in action.
World Champion Anderson Peters emerged victorious in the competition with a best throw of 90.31 metres. Julian Weber of Germany was third with a throw of 89.08 metres.
Even though Neeraj Chopra narrowly missed out on winning the event, he became only the second Indian to finish in the top three in a Diamond League competition after discus thrower Vikas Gowda.

Indian ace tennis star Sania Mirza and Croatia's Mate Pavic reached the Wimbledon semi-finals after beating the fourth-seeded pairing of Gabriela Dabrowski and John Peers in a hard-fought match on Monday.
The sixth seeds Indo-Croat pair defeated the Canadian-Australian pair by 6-4, 3-6, 7-5.
Sania Mirza had never reached Wimbledon's mixed doubles semi-finals prior to this. This was the best-mixed doubles performance for Mirza and Pavic at the All England Club.
The 35-year-old Indian had reached the mixed doubles quarter-finals at All England Club in 2011, 2013 & 2015.
Former doubles world No. 1 Mirza, who earlier in the year announced that this would be her final season also took part in the women's doubles event at this year's Wimbledon with Czech partner Lucie Hradecka but lost in the opening round. 
Mirza and Pavic will face the winner of the other quarter-final between Desirae Krawczyk-Neal Skupski and Jelena Ostapenko-Robert Farah in the semi-finals.

Alpha Romeo racer Zhou Guanyu survived one of the deadliest accidents in the history of Formula 1 events at the British Grand Prix.
The Chinese driver, Mercedes' George Russell, and Alpha Tauri's Pierre Gasly were bogged in a three-car contact which saw Guanyu's vehicle flipping upside down and rolling over the fencing in the first lap. After sliding from the race track, his car hit the barriers at a high speed and halted upturn between the armco and catch fencing. He was removed safely after some struggle by the rescue team. He was declared fit later. In a Tweet, the 23-year-old rookie driver who was the first Chinese driver to participate in Formula 1 confirmed that he had no serious injuries and thanked 'Halo' for saving his life in a Tweet later. Apparently, if the frightening accident would have taken before 2018, the driver would not have survived. Formula 1's Halo cockpit protection device was pivotal in guarding Gunayu's life. Last year, Lewis Hamilton credited the titanium device for saving his life at the Monza GP. Meanwhile, George Russell who sprinted from his car immediately after the crash to check on Zhou is being complimented by the netizens for his spontaneous action. In the same event, that Ferrari's  Carlos Sainz won, Williams driver Alex Abon also suffered a separate accident at the first corner. He too received medical attention and was declared fit later.

Gautam Adani is set to flex his empire into another sporting arena. After Pro Kabaddi League, the Indian Boxing League, and the UAE's upcoming T20 League, the sports arm of the billionaire conglomerate is looking at Ultimate Kho Kho.Adani Sportsline, has purchased the Gujarat franchise for the sport that is being promoted by backed by Dabur's Amit Burman.
"I am delighted to welcome the Adani Group and GMR onboard on our Ultimate Kho Kho journey," said Tenzing Niyogi, CEO of Ultimate Kho Kho. "This is certainly a strong step forward for Ultimate Kho Kho becoming a sports movement.
Along with Adani, south-based GMR group has also acquired rights for the franchise for Kho Kho for the state of Telangana. 
The league backed by the Kho Kho Federation of India, has signed Sony Pictures Networks India as its official broadcasting partner.

Second-seed Spaniard Rafael Nadal reached the Wimbledon quarter-final after a straight-sets win over Dutchman Botic van de Zandschulp 6-4 6-2 7-6(6) in the round of 16 on Monday. 
The world No. 25 Dutchman posed a serious challenge in the first set giving no breaks through the first nine games but Nadal won the 10th game and win the set 6-4. The Spaniard easily won the second set 6-2.
After going down 2-5 in the third set, the 26-year-old made a brilliant comeback as he won three straight games to force a tiebreak. Nadal won the next game but van de Zandschulp again fought back to equalise. Nadal finished things off as he won the final set 7-6.
Having won Australian Open and French Open this year, the 22-Grand slam winner is eyeing his 3rd Major in a year and the third Wimbledon title of his career.
This was the 350th Grand Slam match for the 36-year-old and he joined Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic to achieve this feat. 
Nadal will face eleventh seed Taylor Fritz of the USA in the quarter-final.

Though the crash helmets were effective in preventing head injuries, this device restricts any large objects entering the car's cockpit. It has the ability to save the driver in case the car flips or lands on another.
The governing body for world Motorsport, FIA, after its research highlighted that the survival rate of drivers increased by 17% due to the Halo technology. As per the international body, the sturdy bar which is the 'strongest part of the car' has the capability to take the weight of 2 African elephants (6000kgs) and can deflect a large suitcase at a speed of 225 km/hr.
Although, when introduced, the technology did not get a warm welcome, but it has proved to be a life-saver.
Hamilton, the Mercedes driver who in 2021 had a near-death experience at the Monza GP, credited Halo for saving his life; In 2016, he had called it the, 'worst looking modification in F1 history'.
At the Bahrain GP in 2020, Grosjean's car split into two and immediately caught fire, but the French racer limped off with some minor burns on his fingers. He later called the device 'ugly, but life-saving!'

Indian Olympian sprinter Dutee Chand revealed on Sunday that she had faced ragging by her seniors during her stay at a state-run sports hostel in Bhuvneshwar.
The Orissa-born sprinter recalled the incident on social media a day after a college student committed suicide after a round of ragging on Saturday.
Recounting the incident from 2006-07 at the sports hostel, the 26-year-old alleged her seniors claiming that seniors at Sports Hostel, Bhuvneshwar used to force her to massage their bodies and wash their clothes.
The Asian Games silver medalist further revealed that the seniors also made comments on her finances about which she made complaints to the hostel in charge but she never got their attention. "It used to take a mental toll on me. I was helpless at that time," said the 100-metre National champion. 
The authorities of the Sports Hostel, Bhubaneswar are yet to give a response to the Dutee's charges.

Indian Olympian Dutee Chand revealed on Sunday that she had faced ragging by her seniors during her stay at a state-run sports hostel in Bhubaneswar.
The Odisha-born sprinter recalled the incident on social media a day after a college student committed suicide due to ragging.
Recounting the incident from 2006-07 at the sports hostel, the 26-year-old alleged that her seniors at Sports Hostel in Bhubaneswar used to force her to &lsquo;massage their bodies and wash their clothes.&rsquo;
The Asian Games silver medalist further revealed that the seniors also made comments on her financial status about which she made complaints to the hostel-in-charge but nothing was ever done.
"It used to take a mental toll on me. I was helpless at that time," said the 100-metre National champion.
The authorities of the Sports Hostel in Bhubaneswar are yet to respond to the charges levelled by Dutee.
Dutee is a part of the Indian relay team for the upcoming Commonwealth Games, starting July 28.
