As part of an early project, which seems to show promising results, scientists have developed an algorithm that could predict the mental health of cancer patients.
The study, published in the journal Translational Psychiatry, states that scientists used eye tracking to gauge mental health of cancer patients after surgery.
The procedure uses a combination of convolutional neural network and long short-term memory algorithms.
Patients are made to wear tracking glasses while they view artwork. The algorithm uses gaze and pupil position data to determine the level of depression or anxiety.
As of now only 25 people have been sampled. More research and validation is required to confirm if AI could be relied upon for this.
