The first appearance deceives many. The story of Ranbir Kapoor starrer, Shamshera, is set in the fictional city of Kaza, where a warrior tribe is imprisoned, enslaved, and tortured by a ruthless authoritarian general Shudh Singh (Sanjay Dutt). Samshera, who was one of the slaves rises to become a leader and then a legend for his tribe. He relentlessly fights for his tribe's freedom and dignity. His fight continues even after 25 years as Shamshera's son Balli (Ranbir Kapoor) fights for freedom.
Ranbir Kapoor is coming to the big screen after four years and in Shamshera he plays a larger-than-life, quintessential Hindi film hero. Kudos to the actor for making an earnest attempt to get into the skin of the character. However, a poor screenplay, weak storyline, and rough-edged dialogues steal the sheen out of his efforts. Shamshera betrays Ranbir Kapoor on many levels.
Sanjay Dutt has delivered some of the most epic villains on-screen. With Shamshera, he is back in his antagonist avatar. He is evil, ruthless, and cold-hearted. Yet the brute force of Shuddh Singh quickly fizzles down in the waves of repetitions. It has nothing new to offer. His on-screen showdown with Ranbir and the ferocious fights with no mercy too takes a toll after a while and fails to engage audience. Vani Kapoor executes what's offered and looks stunning in most scenes.
Director Karan Malhotra had the best ingredients consisting of canvas, talent, and scale; still the film kills one's appetite. 159 minutes feel like an era! The film gets dragged and the lacklustre storyline further drags the movie's pace.
The film's big promise of a 'never seen before' Ranbir Kapoor fails to do justice to his calibre. It's vital to be talented, hardworking and dedicated but also to make the right script choices. Shamshera doesn't enhance Ranbir Kapoor's talent or hard work or add to his brand equity. And yes, for the Ranbir die-hard fans, this is the first time they will see him playing a double role in the same film. Provided they muster the courage to sit through the movie with the same enthusiasm!

R Madhavan deserves kudos for choosing an extraordinary biopic for his directorial debut and not giving in to the already set formula for a successful film

'Rocketry: The Nambi Effect' Movie Review: For those who are still unaware, 'Rocketry: The Nambi Effect' is a biographical drama based on the life of Padma Bhushan Nambi Narayanan, a former scientist and aerospace engineer of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), who was falsely accused of espionage.
The film is written, produced, and directed by actor <a href="https://www.editorji.com/entertainment-news/bollywood/r-madhavan-says-i-deserve-this-on-being-trolled-for-his-claim-about-isro-and-their-mars-orbiter-mission-1656305250690" target="_blank">R. Madhavan</a>, who also plays the lead role. The story spans across Narayanan's days as a graduate student at Princeton University, before exploring his work as a scientist and the false espionage charges placed upon him.
It is a risky script that could earn critical acclaim but would it be a crowd-puller: is a thought that would have definitely crossed Madhavan's mind before it hit the floors. R Madhavan deserves kudos for choosing an extraordinary biopic for his directorial debut and not giving in to the already set formula for a successful film. The story is definitely inspiring, but Madhavan's act makes it entertaining; reminding us precisely why Bollywood needs more of R Madhavan. He understands that a biopic is not just a business opportunity. It is emotional responsibility.
Actor, writer, and director of the film R Madhavan takes us through various phases of Padma Bhushan Nambi Narayanan's life. His journey as an Indian aerospace engineer inspires, guides, and reinstates our faith in dreams. However, the film highlights the journey wasn't a breeze. It required integrity and courage to fight for your ethics and principles. A scientist, who declined a job offer at NASA to work for ISRO and take forward India's space mission. And yet, he gets branded as a honey-trapped spy. The film captures this essence from Nambi Narayanan's fight against all odds.
The strength of this film also lies in the star cast. Simran, as Narayanan's wife, steals the show. You get an emotional lump in your throat every time she is on-screen. Sam Mohan as Unni is absolutely amazing. R Madhavan ensures that the film is emotional but not overly dramatic. He ensures that the film doesn't fall into the traps of glorification and hero-worshiping. He showcases the flaws of the lead character with equal finesse.
Interestingly, Shah Rukh Khan plays a longish cameo in the film as an interviewer of Nambi Narayanan (real and the reel one). It is a move that works to balance the movie with two good actors holding the helm. This is one of King Khan's best performances in recent times. His fans who are waiting for 'Pathan,' 'Jawan,' and 'Dunki' shouldn't miss this opportunity to witness King Khan's grace, poise, and timely 'exhibited' vulnerability during some intense scenes in the film.
The film's dialogue has the right amount of emotions in the right place. Few lines remain with you long after the screening. 'Scientists react only when Rockets fail to take off; they do not know how to react when humans fail' is one such statement that encapsulates the turmoil faced by Nambi Narayanan.
Rocketry is a genuine attempt at recounting the story of a genius and patriot that truly deserves to be shared and be known by the audience. The film should be watched in the theatre for its honesty, and it will make you wonder if we are worshipping the right heroes? Do we need better role models?

Kuku (Varun Dhawan) and Naina (Kiara Advani), who moved to Canada post their marriage, are now planning a divorce. The estranged couple flies to India for Kuku's sister's (Prajakta Kohli) wedding and hopes to reveal the news to the family after the ceremony. However, Kuku's life takes a U-turn when he discovers his father (Anil Kapoor) is planning to divorce his mother (Neetu Kapoor).
Director Raj Mehta has tried to wrap a serious issue in humour. Maniesh Paul, who plays the role of Kuku's friend and Naina's brother, acts as a catalyst to drive up the humour quotient of the film with a few one-liners. 
Varun Dhawan as Kuku continues in his domain of a guy-next-door. In the initial 10 minutes, we discover similarities with the previous characters played by the actor. As the movie proceeds, Kuku's character graduates to being more vulnerable and relatable to the audience. Varun has done justice to whatever was offered to him. Kiara Advani is impressive in emotional scenes and has a good screen presence. Though, it takes a while for the lead actors to develop on-screen chemistry. 
Anil Kapoor is the soul of the film. His timing and expressions infuse the much-needed entertainment rush in the script. However, weak writing shackles his character, especially during a few emotional scenes. 
Neetu Kapoor is grace personified. It's great to see her back on the big screen. Neetu Kapoor's and Anil Kapoor's chemistry is natural and is relatable to the audience. 
The film's length hinders the experience of a predictable story. Dialogue is a mix of emotions and humour. Most of them will remind you of WhatsApp forwards and memes. A section of the audience might love it, while others may feel it's distasteful and unnecessary. The film has everything a typical Bollywood drama is made of - masala, comedy, dance moves, and a great star cast. If you don't have anything planned for the weekend, then JugJugg Jeeyo can be a part of your list.

Jurassic World Dominion Movie Review: Dinosaurs are extinct, just like the film’s story plot

Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Laura Dern, Sam Neill, Jeff Goldblum reunite and that’s the only solace for the audience. 

Jurassic World Dominion is one such film that made worldwide audience book tickets to catch the last glimpse of the film.

When successful film franchises announce &lsquo;perhaps, this is the last you will see of us&rsquo;, it ushers in the nostalgia of growing up with the film and its characters. <a href="https://www.editorji.com/story/jurassic-world-dominion-is-culmination-of-six-movies-director-1623329127708" target="_blank">Jurassic World Dominion</a> is one such film that made worldwide audience book tickets to catch the last glimpse of the film. Alas, this isn&rsquo;t a film that pays its dues.
There are dinosaurs; there is an environmental catastrophe triggered by a money-greedy, chaos-loving private enterprise that camouflages an earth-loving and purpose-driven organization. Sounds similar? Dinosaurs have moved from Isla Nublar Island and reproduced worldwide, and people are trying to adapt to their presence. Till here, the writers are on the right track. But hereon, it feels as if the makers sat down over a coffee and forced the writer to make it bigger. One can imagine the writer thinking: not just more teeth; we need to make this bigger, awkward and confusing.
So they introduced foot-sized (genetically-engineered) locusts sent out with the intention of triggering a worldwide food famine. A dino-variant of scissor hands fighting with T-Rex and Giganotosaurus to be the apex predator! And, of course, the makers have brought some of the old characters back on the screen. A macho Owen (Chris Pratt) tames a Hippodraco with ease while riding on a horse. Yes, there is Blue; and Blue has a baby too.
Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Laura Dern, Sam Neill, Jeff Goldblum reunite and that&rsquo;s the only solace for the audience. One key reason why this film doesn&rsquo;t connect with the audience is that it&rsquo;s stretched beyond believability. Similarly, the Jurassic series has always been made keeping in both spectrum of the audience &ndash; children and adults. This one, though, feels like it caters to only children.
Therefore, if you are a superfan of the franchise or want your kids to enjoy a dinosaur-based film, go for it. Otherwise, save the money till it hits an OTT platform.

'<a href="https://www.editorji.com/entertainment-news/bollywood/bhool-bhulaiyaa-2-trailer-kartik-aaryan-kiara-advani-tabu-are-bound-to-leave-you-petrified-1650963622965" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2</a>,' however, escapes the tricky waters of expectations. &nbsp;An accidental yet destined meet-up between two strangers Ruhaan (Kartik Aaryan) and Reet (Kiara Advani) forms into camaraderie. As fate has its plans, Ruhaan reaches the haunted haveli (mansion) left behind by the Thakur family many years ago, thanks to paranormal misadventures of Manjulika's ghost. What follows this is a crazy side and Ruhaan's attempt to save the family from Manjulika's ghost!
In his absolute new avatar and spooky cool swag, Kartik Aaryan delivers a decent performance. It's not easy to step into the shoes of an actor or take up a role where comparison is a given. Kartik gambles with the chances and scrapes through. Kiara Advani looks good on-screen but looking at her past impactful performances, she had nothing much to do in this film. Tabu is brilliant and in great form throughout the film. She completely steals the show and it's a treat to watch her.
Rajpal Yadav and Sanjay Mishra in pivotal roles add to the humour quotient of the film. Their impeccable comic timing manages to pump up the film's entertainment factor. Ashwini Kalsekar and Rajesh Sharma deliver in their respective roles.

It has drama, horror, comedy and even a little bit of romance. Whether the romance was impressive is debatable. 'Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2' is dragged through its first half but picks up in the second half. 'Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2''s title track is impressive, and Kartik adds his charisma to the song to own it up. He manages to carry it with grace and suaveness.
If the team would have trimmed the run and tightened the screenplay, the film could have scored higher and be extremely entertaining film. 'Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2' can easily sweep into your weekend watch list this summer. 'Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2', produced by Bhushan Kumar, Murad Khetani, Anjum Khetani, and Krishan Kumar under the banner of T-Series and Cine 1 Studios.

In his recent media interaction during the promotion of his film 'K.G.F: Chapter 2', Rocking Star Yash had stressed on dissolving barriers which separates the regional film industry. While addressing a question on the pan-India acceptance of films, the actor had said that North, East, South, West were mere directions. He stressed on how as Indians and as one Industry, we should collectively believe in Indian cinema and come together to celebrate it. He insisted that rather than creating Bollywood, Tollywood, Sandalwood etc, the right approach is to have a holistic perspective.

A geographical scrutiny of the film’s performance shows that in Hindi alone it has grossed ₹55.21 Cr and become one of the fastest to reach the ₹100 Cr club milestone. Similar results in Kerala and its native region Karnataka. In both states it has become the film to have the highest ever Day 2.
Speaking on the increasing reach of Yash’s presence across the country, Rohit Jaiswal, a renowned trade analyst said, “In the Bengal belt, both single screen and multiplexes are running to packed houses, even for early morning and late-night shows. And not just in cinemas, the Rocky Bhai look has become a rage and everyone wants to get. Not just the physical appearance, but even his swag. The love for Yash is similar to what Bengal has for Prosenjit, and his female fan following here is massive as well.”
Similar scenes were witnessed from Gaeity Galaxy in Mumbai, which is known to be one of landmark single screens of the area. Videos of audience cheering for Rocky Bhai unanimously in Mumbai, to visuals of families flocking theatres in Tamil Nadu at 3 AM even on the 3rd day, is also a first for Tamil Nadu belt.
With such numbers while the markets would be going home with a width-wide smiles on their faces, Yash’s suggestion to look at the Indian audience sans any regional prisms seems to be coming true. Will the film retain the buoyant run? Only time will tell.

Working with Yash has been an absolute pleasure. Even though I am a newcomer, and he is such a huge star, Yash has been so patient and extremely supportive. He gave me my own space and time to soak it all in. He has been truly a treat to work with. I always watched and learned how dedicated he is and how he wants to improvise every time and do full justice to Rocky's character."
Speaking about her upbringing and debut in the film industry, she said, "When you grow up, you have your share of struggles, difficulties, and financial crises. I come from a lower-middle-class family, where one is expected to finish the studies and eventually get a job. But, somewhere down the line, I felt that this was not what I wanted to do...I wanted to break the shackles and come out of it. I resigned from my corporate job and immediately started trying for pageants as they have age restrictions. One day, the director saw my pictures and called me for a meeting for K.G.F.," she adds.
Srinidhi also revealed that it was a conscious decision not to sign many films parallel to K.G.F. "When K.G.F. (part 1) released, many offers came my way. A few were not exciting enough, while others did not work out the way it was supposed to be. Around 2019, I got a script narration from a Tamil director because it was beautiful [sic]. I got a chance to work with Vikram Sir -- another legendary talent house performer. So, there are absolutely no regrets about waiting for six years with just two projects in hand. It was a conscious effort and choice to pick up what I wanted to do. Down the line, when I see my body of work, I want to be happy that this is what I chose because I really wanted to do it, not just for the sake of doing it. For me, I prefer quality any day over quantity."

Did you expect the show to do well? "We had started to get very good reactions right from the launch of promos. When you get something right… sometimes from the beginning, only you understand that it is going in the right direction, and at times, it's like an underdog. Ekta Kapoor and her team had worked very hard on the concept. They came up with something original and responsive to the environment," Kangana says.
Ekta was always confident about the show and choosing Kangana as the show host. Commenting on it, Kangana says, "There were so many FIRs on me (laughs) and scrutiny by the industry. The credit goes to her [Ekta]. Let me put it in her words: 'You play a lot of inspiring women like Jhansi Ki Raani or Dr. Jayalalitha or even mother's role in Panga or a person with schizophrenia in Judgemental Hai Kya. You play these exciting women, but for me, as a viewer, you are also a very exciting person. I want to know you as you are.' That made a lot of sense to me. I had been feeling…I never get a platform to interact as Kangana unless it is an interview. So, to me, it made sense."
But were you planning to enter OTT platform? "We were on two platforms because both had huge reach. It was a decision taken by Ekta, and I was ok with that. I thought that I might be good, but it will take time to get accepted. Thankfully, the contestants are so good, and everybody is just so brilliant together," she adds.
Since the audience has accepted you as a reality show host, how do you feel now? "I guess I didn't take as much time as I expected to get good at it. It's unrealistic to expect yourself to just do well in the first 5-6 episodes. I thought I'd probably take time to get the hang of it. But, as I said, the contestants are so good&hellip;and there is a huge system that is behind it which may not be evident to others. Ekta has gone for all the top people. I am happy that it worked, and in such a big way," she concludes.

It is the first time in Hindi cinema that two actors have played one character. It's a risky move as it exposes two actors to juxtaposition and criticism. However, Rishi Kapoor is a treat for the eyes and his character seems tailor-made. Hats off to Paresh Rawal for stepping into the shoes and keeping Sharmaji alive in the audience's minds.
Suhail Nayyar warrants a special mention for his performance. It is not easy to stand out in front of brilliant actors like Rishi Kapoor and Paresh Rawal. But, Nayyar is effortless. Other co-actors - Satish Kaushik, Isha Talwar, Sheeba Chaddha &ndash; have played their part well. Juhi Chawla and Rishi Kapoor take us back to an era when romance was more about emotional chemistry. Their on-screen chemistry is adorable as always. Parmeet Sethi's presence lit up the screen.
Director Hitesh Bhatia has done complete justice to Rishi Kapoor and the film. He ensured to retain the simplicity and charm of the actor. The shift between Rishi Kapoor and Paresh Rawal was smooth. The writing is crisp, honest, non-dramatic, and definitely not preachy! But above all, Sharmaji is 'entertaining'.
Hitesh pays a perfect homage to Rishi Kapoor in the end credits. A behind-the-scenes clip brings back Rishi Kapoor where he says, "Now, this can't be done better than this."

Talking exclusively to editorji, Bibriti Chatterjee reveals what she felt when the song was offered to her. A super confident Bibriti said "I just started to be in a live-in relationship myself, when we were shooting for the song. The song is very close to me. When it came to my moving in with my partner, my family was pretty chilled about it. We didn't have any discussions nor had to seek anyone’s permission."
On his part, Ehan Bhat said that, what was most important for him was to get associated to the label ‘Saregama Music’. It was a dream come true for him. When the music label approached him, he was surprised, humbled and also honoured. The ‘icings’ on the cake were in the form of Mohit Chauhan (the singer of song) and his favourite lyricist (Javed Akhtar), who has beautifully penned the lyrics. Sharing his thoughts about the song, Ehan said that when he heard the song for the first time, he had goosebumps. He added he was very much sure that people would listen to the track on loop.

Amitabh Bachchan is a retired school teacher who is determined to change the life of underprivileged children by involving them in the game of football. He believes sports is a unifying force that will keep these children away from petty crime and other distractions. But this is easier said than done. In his attempt, he faces resistance from society, inertia from the children and much more before the film leads to its logical climax. Contrary to Sairat, Nagraj tows the line of predictability but makes it refreshing and enjoyable.
The treatment of the film by the director is commendable. It has the heart in the right place. Instead of a dark and insipid approach to life in slums, Nagraj and the team use emotions like empathy, care, and trust to touch the audience's hearts. The first half of the film is lengthy. Kudos to the fantastic performance by young actors that the audience breezes through. The second half deals with multiple issues and challenges, which weighs down the pace. In the end, this film makes you laugh, smile, sympathise, empathise, and sheds light on a subject which we are all aware of but seldom ponder upon.
Superstar Amitabh Bachchan is seen in a never seen before avatar of a coach motivating the kids and positively influencing their lives. The actor is outstanding as always. His persona adds to the film and makes it a celebration. However, the army of young actors balances the film with realistic performances. Music by Ajay-Atul is impactful. Lafda Zala and Aaya Ye Jhund Hai is raw and loaded with raw high octave tunes. Dialogues are too authentic, believable and impactful.
Despite being a long film, Jhund earns half a point extra for its efforts, intention and honest depiction. This film captures the essence of team effort in the truest sense. Each character justifies the part offered. It's a Sanjay Leela Bhansali film; it can't be devoid of grandiose visuals, cinematography, acting and, of course, court cases. Keeping the last part of the mix (legal cases) aside, the film, Gangubai Kathiawadi, etches the journey of young Ganga who battles circumstances to become Gangubai, the madame who rises up from the ground to rule the red light area of Kamathipura with an iron fist. The film is loosely based on S. Hussain Zaidi's book 'Mafia Queens of Mumbai'.
 
Like most Bhansali films, it takes around 15-20 minutes to earn the audience's involvement with the film and characters. You tend to doubt if the film will indeed keep you entertained till the end as you witness some missing roots and abrupt endings of story tracks. However, as the second half clicks in, it becomes gripping, and the screenplay definitely attains pace. The film's length is a concern at a time when the audience is tuned to watch shorter movies and lives on snackable videos. But that's classic Sanjay Leela Bhansali. His films are usually longer than expected.
 
Alia Bhatt, as the titular Ganga, has tried her best to get into the skin of the character. She manages to keep you engaged throughout the film and ticks all the boxes necessary to make the character look believable – including the minute flaws of the character ingrained in the script. You may want to question the writing -- especially on the aspects of her personality -- but Alia salvages it with her performance.

But this film's music and background score aren't as impactful as in his previous works. However, the grand set and cinematography continue to enthral and excite the audience adding to the script and the storyline without making it look forced.

The film's length is a concern at a time when the audience is tuned to watch shorter movies and lives on snackable videos. But that's classic Sanjay Leela Bhansali. His films are usually longer than expected.

You may want to question the writing -- especially on the aspects of her personality -- but Alia salvages it with her performance.

"You have pregnant women in parliament; you have pregnant women in the corporate world; you have pregnant women everywhere. So why not have that on camera? In cinema?" she questions. "I can discuss it as I have been through it. I got married at 38. I had my first kid and then second. I was very clear in my head that I would not go away from things I love. I had decided that I would go out and ask for work. If I still don't get work, I will create it. During my first pregnancy, I created work. I continued to work till the end," Neha recollects.
"Behzad is so brave as a director. He took that chance on me. He has not opened up an avenue just for thrillers and dramas, but for many other women who may be pushing their personal dreams aside for their professional choices," she concludes.

A picture-perfect day takes a nefarious turn as Naina Jaiswal (Yami Gautam) puts innocent lives at risk after resuming work post a three week's break at a kindergarten school found by her. What happens when she draws a gun, holds children hostage and spill out one demand after another? The film takes the usual route of pushing the audience to wonder: what is the reason behind this absurd behaviour of the protagonist? 
What makes the film stand out and gripping is the sensitivity of handling the core theme of the film. There are several societal issues that are touched and missed. However, rather than appearing as an ingenuous attempt by makers to stuff multiple themes in the script, it convinces you that the effort was to bring us back to the fulcrum of the storyline. Director Behzad Khambata keeps the film gripping till the end despite a few conspicuous unrealistic moments. The writers have made sure that the writing is crisp and clear. The director has managed to extract good performances from the cast. One minute clap for the background score. Behzad's experience as a sound engineer has helped the team craft the BGM to up the thrill quotient of the film.
Yami Gautam steals the show and makes it evident that she is here to stay. Yami's performance coupled with the thrill quotient of the film makes you pensive. She has done a fabulous job portraying her character with tints of grey with sensitivity and sensibility. Neha Dhupia (ACP Catherine Alvarez) is a cop in the last trimester of her pregnancy. She has held on to her character as a duty-bound and sincere officer whose inspiration is to win medals and earn fame. In real life too, Neha was pregnant during the film's shooting, and perhaps that has brought a new touch of life to her character on screen.
Atul Kulkarni (super cop Javed Khan) is as always impactful as a rough-tactics cop. His and Neha's on-screen chemistry maps the tussle of power dynamics between an erstwhile couple. It would be interesting to see them opposite each other in other films too. Dimple Kapadia, as a strong PM delivers on what's offered. She is blessed with few but impactful dialogue. Karanvir Sharma (criminal lawyer, Rohit Mirchandani, and fiancé of Neha Jaiswal) leaves his impression as he goes through phases of surprise, shock and desperation.
A narrative that explores the dark side of human nature and unpredictable events, especially in the climax, makes the movie worth the whistle. One of the biggest positives of the film is the sensitivity with which it deals with several issues, including mental health. The movie isn't entirely unpredictable, but it still holds water as a thriller that can be enjoyed till the end.

Badhaai Do carries on with the formula which has in the past created both critical and box office success for Junglee Pictures. The first half of the film has an adequate dose of comedy while the second half is focused on the subsequent chaos and drama. Writers Akshat Ghildial and Suman Adhikary have managed to pick a socially relevant subject that warrants attention.

Though director Harshavardhan Kulkarni and the team took a bold subject, they fell short of pushing the envelope. With a stellar ensemble cast like Seema Pahwa, Sheeba Chadha, Chum Darang, Lovleen Mishra, Nitish Pandey, and Shashi Bhushan, there was never a doubt on the acting arsenal. Each of the actors engages the audience through bursts of moments. Bhumi Pednekar and Rajkummar Rao yet again brilliantly showcase their acting prowess. It is nice to see Rajkummar&rsquo;s transformation.

When an incident introduces him to Sumi, he learns that she is a lesbian. To Sumi&rsquo;s surprise, Shardul also confesses that he is gay. He proposes that they should get married for convenience and continue to lead their life in secret. The dramedy takes shape as the two try to keep their life hidden from family and society. However, one day it falls into a tailspin.
'Badhaai Do' carries on with the formula which has in the past created both critical and box office success for Junglee Pictures. The first half of the film has an adequate dose of comedy while the second half is focused on the subsequent chaos and drama. Writers Akshat Ghildial and Suman Adhikary have managed to pick a socially relevant subject that warrants attention.

Though director Harshavardhan Kulkarni and the team took a bold subject, they fell short of pushing the envelope. With a stellar ensemble cast like Seema Pahwa, Sheeba Chadha, Chum Darang, Lovleen Mishra, Nitish Pandey, and Shashi Bhushan, there was never a doubt on the acting arsenal. Each of the actors engages the audience through bursts of moments. Bhumi Pednekar and Rajkummar Rao yet again brilliantly showcase their acting prowess. It is nice to see Rajkummar&rsquo;s transformation.
But, despite their efforts, the film fizzles out in the attempt to do many things at a time. After the point, one gets a feeling of the subject getting dragged in parts.
Watch the film if you are a fan of dramedy or want to explore the concept of lavender marriages embellished with humour.

Alisha (Deepika Padukone) is an ambitious Yoga instructor who is in a monotonous live-in relationship with an aspiring novelist Karan (Dhairya Karwa). Karan who had left the job in an advertising agency to pursue his passion of writing suffers from pangs of procrastination and lethargy. He just doesn’t want to make earnest attempts! This forces Alisha to take over the role of being the pillar for the financial and emotional needs of the relationship. In stark contrast to her cousin,Tia (Ananya Panday) she leads a ‘mediocre’ lifestyle which stays on like a thread of a life she could have had if her father (Naseeruddin Shah) didn’t pursue his passion of making cheese at a small venture out of Nashik. She blames her father for losing her mother and injecting a sense of fear of being stuck in a relationship.
As she fights to accept the reality of her relationship, her cousin Tia invites her and Karan for a weekend break with her fiancé Zain (Siddhant Chaturvedi). Zain is a flamboyant and charming real estate developer who is working on a multicrore development project in Alibaug. He wears stylish clothes, leases a luxury latch to impress his clients and believes in moving in the greys. Zain is in relationship with Tia a naïve and rich girl who is also a sleeping partner in his business. He needs her money and connections more than her love.
During the weekend, waves of casual flirtation routines between Alisha and Zain turns into a sea of passion. Hereon, the story charts the journey of Alisha and Zain, as they confront the ghost of their past on the path they take to avoid it.
Directed by Shakun Batra, the film establishes a different meaning to the catch-line of the film: Are we messed up people? Karan doesn’t wish to take up responsibility yet hides under the veil of ‘personal space’ and unfair ‘criticism’. Tia wants to mend her relationship with her cousin yet hides a truth of her life. Alisha fears that she too shall be ‘stuck’ and helpless like her mother if she continues the relationship and rather prefers to break-free. Zain prefers to play the victim in his own web of convoluted reasons – in business and relationships.
Deepika Padukone and Siddhant Chaturvedi steer the film. Both actors have delivered on what was promised. Ananya Panday is a pleasant surprise. She lives through her character of a rich and naïve kid who thinks of learning pottery to kill boredom or be blind to the ripples around her life. Perhaps her reason to trust stems from her own ingenuity in another part of her life. Dhairya Karwa comes across as a good friend but not so great partner. His character hasn’t been explored much but he still manages to do a decent job. Rajat Kapoor and Naseeruddin Shah have little screen-time but they make the most out of it through their acting brilliance.
