Zomato co-founder Gaurav Gupta delivered a surprise exit from the company after 6 years as he embarks on what he calls a 'new chapter'.

Gaurav Gupta who joined the food tech platform in 2015 was also the head of supply for the venture. Gupta joined as business head for table reservations and was elevated to co-founder in 2019 and was overlooking the health and nutrition business which was shuttered last week by the company.

Founder Deepinder Goyal took to twitter to make public his parting mail to Gupta stating "Thank you GG for everything you have helped Zomato achieve over the last few years. We have seen Zomato through great as well as terrible times together, and brought it here today. There’s so much of our journey still ahead of us, and I am thankful that you are hanging your boots at a point where we have a great team and leadership to carry us forward."

The food tech startup has been on a clean-up drive closing down non-core business ventures such as grocery delivery, health and fitness products and even shutting their US and Singapore subsidiary offices.
