A man was detained Thursday night after he aimed a handgun at point-blank range toward Argentine Vice President Cristina Fernandez.
Video from the scene which has gone viral shows Fernández exiting her vehicle surrounded by supporters outside her home when a man appears from the crowd extends his hand with what looks like a pistol and the vice president ducks, AP reported.
Making an official statement following the incident, President Alberto Fernandez condemned the attack on the vice president
Giving further details in the incident, the President said that the weapon had five bullets, but didn’t go off.
Video posted on social media even shows the pistol almost touching Fernandez's face.
The assailant has been identified as a 35-year-old man of Brazilian origin, was held by police and the weapon was seized.
