The Hindu caste system and alleged discrimination linked to it are under the lens of American authorities once again.
In the latest instance, a bill seeking to explicitly ban caste discrimination in California has been passed by the state's Senate Judiciary Committee. The panel on April 25, 2023, unanimously voted to send the bill to the Senate.
This would be the first instance of a US state legislature deliberating on a caste bill.
Indian-American businesses and temple outfits have reportedly opposed the bill.
