The accident occurred at the Montgomery regional airport in Alabama on 31 December 2022, according to the New York Post. The plane, an Embraer 170, had arrived from Dallas and was parked with one engine running when the incident occurred.

"We are saddened to hear about the tragic loss of a team member of the AA/Piedmont Airlines. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family during this difficult time," the airport's executive director, Wade Davis, said.
