The USS Abraham Lincoln entered Middle East waters as tensions remain high over Iran's threat to retaliate against Israel over the killing of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran.

The US military's Central Command made the announcement early Thursday, sharing footage of F-35s taking off from its deck.

The vessel had been ordered to the region at its best speed over concerns Iran could retaliate, part of the ongoing tensions that have gripped the region over the wider Israel-Hamas war.
