A major security scare was sparked in the United Kingdom after a shipment of scrap metal was found to contain uranium at London's Heathrow airport. The radioactive metal is likely to have come from Pakistan, according to UK news reports.

The Counter-Terrorism Command was called after uranium was detected in routine screening of a consignment which came on a flight from Oman on 29 December 2022.

The uranium was not weapons-grade, which means that it couldn't be used to make a nuclear bomb, according to reports. The quantity of the radioactive metal was small and didn't pose a threat to the public, reports quoted officials as saying.

No arrests have been made yet, but the investigation is continuing.
