The UK police are calling for calm after clashes between fans following an India-Pakistan Asia Cup cricket match at the end of last month spilled over into “serious disorder” on September 17 and the early hours of September 18 in the city of Leicester in eastern England.
Videos of clashes in eastern England, particularly in Leicestershire have been doing rounds in the wake of India-Pakistan Asia cup cricket match in August.
The clashes didn't stop there. They spiralled further with police arresting at least 27 people as of September 16.
The origin of disorder dates back to August 28 when India won the match against Pakistan in Asia Cup qualifiers.
In a latest developement, Leicestershire Police arrested two more people in connection with the violence induced by two groups of protesters who embarked on an unplanned protest. The arrests come after reports of Pakistani groups were seen threatening Hindus in the Leicester city.
The police confirmed the disorder in parts of East Leiscerter where large crowds of young men were carrying out a disallowed protest.
The recent turn of events precede rumours of a mosque attack on September 17, which the police had later dispelled.
Meanwhile, the UK Police has urged for calm in the disturbed areas. Several users took it to Twitter over the 'Hindu-Muslim' clash and called it a 'nightmare.'
Tensions continue to stay afloat with high visibility police patrolling in the area currently on.
Reports also suggest that police had imposed a dispersal order to conduct searches against anyone it suspects of ill-intent.
