Tremonton, Utah, Aug 18 (AP) – In a tragic incident on Sunday, two police officers lost their lives in the northern Utah city of Tremonton. A suspect has been apprehended and is in custody, according to authorities.

The officers were responding to a call concerning a domestic disturbance in a Tremonton neighborhood. During the incident, a sheriff's deputy and a police dog also sustained injuries. Both were quickly transported to a hospital and are currently in fair condition, police reported.

Following the confrontation where the officers were shot, courageous bystanders intervened and succeeded in persuading the suspect to relinquish his weapon. The police further noted that SWAT teams were deployed to secure the residence and ensure no ongoing threats remained.

Police Detective Crystal Beck, from the neighboring Brigham City, recounted the events, stating, “Upon arrival, they immediately began taking fire. They requested additional units. And then stopped answering their radio.”

The arrested individual is facing charges of aggravated murder, as per a police news release. However, his identity has not yet been disclosed.
