Peshawar, Aug 25 (PTI) At least five security personnel have lost their lives, and 17 others have been injured in two separate terrorist incidents in the northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan. Officials reported these attacks on Monday.

In the first incident, three members of the Frontier Constabulary (FC) were killed and 17 others wounded when militants attacked an FC fort located in the Tora Warai area of Hangu district late Sunday night.

Earlier that day, two more security personnel were shot and killed by terrorists in the Tirah valley of Khyber district.

In another development, five militants were killed during a joint operation undertaken by police and the Counter Terrorism Department in the Upper Dir district. During this operation, a civilian also lost their life, and seven policemen suffered injuries.

Authorities recovered one militant's body on Sunday night, followed by four more on Monday, bringing the total to five. Search operations are ongoing in the Dobando, Birkot, Salam Kot, and Atandra areas of Upper Dir to clear any remaining militants.

This surge in terrorist activities comes as the country faces increasing attacks, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, both of which share a porous border with Afghanistan.

According to the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS), an Islamabad-based think tank, there were 78 terrorist attacks in the country during June, resulting in 175 deaths.

Earlier this month, in a separate series of operations in Balochistan's Zhob district, security forces successfully neutralized 47 terrorists attempting to infiltrate from Afghanistan.
