Peshawar, Aug 14 (PTI) — Officials have reported a spate of terrorist attacks across Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, resulting in the deaths of at least four police personnel and injuries to nine others. The attacks, which targeted various police stations and check posts, occurred on Wednesday.
In Peshawar, security forces successfully repelled assaults on the Hassan Khel police station and two check posts, although a police constable was killed and another injured.
Meanwhile, in Upper Dir, a Quick Response Force vehicle was ambushed by terrorists, leading to the deaths of three policemen and injuries to eight more. The wounded were rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital for treatment, and a search operation was launched immediately afterward.
In the Khyber district, heavily-armed militants attacked the joint Frontier Corps–police checkpoint at Sakhi Pul but were forced to retreat following a strong retaliatory response.
Similar attacks were reported in the Nasir Bagh and Mattani areas, but police successfully thwarted these assaults with no casualties.
In Bannu, militants targeted the Mazangha check post within the Hovid Police Station limits, though fortunately, no casualties occurred.
In the Charsadda district, assailants on motorcycles threw a hand grenade at the Tarlandi check post under the Nasta Police Station early on Thursday morning. Thankfully, the device did not cause any injuries or damage.
In response to these incidents, security has been escalated at all police stations and checkpoints across the province, with forces on high alert to deter and counter any additional threats.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur condemned the attacks, labeling them as "cowardly" acts.
"Such incidents will not dampen the morale of our police," he asserted.
