Colombo, Sept 25 (PTI) – In a tragic incident at a forest monastery in northwestern Sri Lanka, seven Buddhist monks, including one Indian national, lost their lives, while six others sustained injuries when a cable-operated rail cart overturned, police reported on Thursday.

The accident took place on Wednesday night at the Na Uyana Aranya Senasanaya, a well-known Buddhist monastery located in Nikaweratiya, roughly 125 km from Colombo.

The monastery, noted for its meditation retreats, attracts practitioners worldwide.

Among the deceased were monks from India, Russia, and Romania, police confirmed.

Of the six injured individuals, four are in critical condition, authorities stated.
