In a unique blunder, a political party in Austria announced the name of the wrong candidate as its new leader, and corrected the mistake two days later.

The Social Democratic party blamed a "technical error" in an Excel file for the incorrect announcement.

Party officials on June 5, 2023 said that Andreas Babler, the mayor of the south-eastern city of Traiskirchen, had won the leadership contest.

On June 3, Hans Peter Doskozil, the governor of the south-eastern Burgenland region, had been declared the winner.
