Peshawar, Oct 16 (PTI) Security forces in Pakistan's troubled Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province have killed thirty-four terrorists associated with the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) in a series of intelligence-based operations, as announced by the military on Thursday.
The operations were carried out following reports of terrorist presence in various locations within the province between Monday and Wednesday, according to a statement by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the military's media wing.
These operations targeted the districts of North Waziristan, South Waziristan, and Bannu, resulting in the deaths of 34 militants referred to as members of "Fitna Al-Khwarij." The term is used by Pakistani authorities to describe the militants of the banned TTP.
In the Spinwam area of the North Waziristan district, 18 terrorists were reported "sent to hell," according to the statement. An additional eight terrorists each were eliminated in the operations conducted in South Waziristan and Bannu districts.
The statement further mentioned that forces are conducting sanitisation operations in the region to eradicate any remaining threats and "wipe out the menace" of terrorism.
There has been an upsurge in militant activity in Pakistan, particularly in the provinces of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, since the TTP called off its ceasefire with the government in November 2022.
The operations targeting TTP hideouts occur amidst ongoing border tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan, following a series of terrorist attacks by the banned group, which allegedly utilized Afghan territory.
On Wednesday, Pakistan announced an agreement on a 48-hour ceasefire with Afghanistan.
