Rishi Sunak appears to be facing his first political battle after assuming charge as the new Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. Sunak's decision to bring back fellow Indian-origin politician Suella Braverman as a minister has not gone down well with the Opposition.

The Liberal Democrat party has criticised Sunak for reappointing Braverman despite the fact that she had resigned from Liz Truss' Cabinet after violating government communication rules. Braverman had sent official documents from her personal email account.

On 25 October 2022, hours after formally taking over, Sunak brought Braverman back as the Home Secretary. The Liberal Democrats said that the appointment "made a mockery" of Rishi Sunak's claims of "bringing integrity to Number 10".

The Opposition party also sought an independent inquiry by the Cabinet Office. The Lib Dems said that a minister who broke the rules is not fit for a Home Office which keeps the rules.
