Mother of Pakistani boy who was set ablaze by father recalls horror

The mother of a 12-year-old boy who was allegedly burnt by his father for not doing his homework says the man must be punished.

Shazia Parveen recalled finding her son on fire and shouting for help.

"It looked as if the whole room was burning. I kept shouting. Then I lost consciousness", she told the Associated Press.

"(His father) must get punishment. Whoever does a thing like this must be punished", she said.

The incident happened on September 14 and Shaheer Parveen died in hospital two days later.

The boy's father, Nazir Khan, has been arrested and remanded for investigation.

Shaheer's brother Shahzain said his father was "enraged" when he heard Shaheer had been flying his kite.

"Papa got up and started looking for something", he said, and added "After a few moments, he found kerosene oil and set him alight".
