Tianjin, Sep 1 (PTI) – Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently concluded a "productive" visit to China, where he attended the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit and engaged in bilateral talks with global leaders, including Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

During the final leg of his two-nation tour, the prime minister highlighted India's stance on crucial global issues through a social media post, stating, "Concluding a productive visit to China, where I attended the SCO Summit and interacted with various world leaders. Also emphasised India’s stand on key global issues."

Modi expressed gratitude towards President Xi, the Chinese government, and its citizens for the successful organisation of the summit. Notably, this visit marked Modi's return to China after a seven-year interval.

In his summit address, Modi called for the elimination of double standards in the fight against terrorism, emphasizing that combating terrorism is a "duty towards humanity." At the summit—attended by leaders including Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, President Xi, and others—Modi stated that the Pahalgam terror attack was an affront to India's conscience and an open challenge to nations supporting humanity.

Modi also outlined India's perspective and strategic approach within the SCO framework with the acronym "SCO": "S for Security, C for Connectivity and O for Opportunity."

Prior to his departure, Modi met with Russian President Putin, urging an end to the Ukraine conflict, reflecting what he described as humanity's call. The discussions also covered cooperation in economic, financial, and energy sectors, with both leaders expressing satisfaction with the progress in their bilateral ties.

On Sunday, Modi held talks with Xi on the summit's sidelines. The discussions were aimed at expanding trade and investment to stabilize global commerce, exploring deeper bilateral ties to tackle global challenges, and working towards a "fair" resolution of the ongoing border issues.

Modi's interactions with Putin and Xi occurred amidst possibly the most challenging phase in India-US relations in over two decades. Tensions have been heightened by U.S. President Donald Trump's trade tariffs and his administration's frequent criticism of New Delhi.

The visit to China followed Modi's two-day trip to Japan.
