US President Joe Biden is set to skip the coronation ceremony of UK's King Charles III. Charles is scheduled to be anointed monarch at Westminster Abbey on 6 May 2023.
Biden reportedly informed Charles during a phone call that he would not be able to attend the event, but his wife First Lady Jill Biden would be present.
America reportedly has a tradition of Presidents not attending such events. In 1953, US President Dwight Eisenhower did not attend Queen Elizabeth II's coronation.
