Washington, Aug 29 (PTI) – U.S. Vice President JD Vance has expressed that his current position has equipped him to step into the nation's highest office if necessary, despite his confidence in President Donald Trump's "excellent health" and his hope that Trump will serve his full term.
In an interview with USA Today, Vance dismissed continuing speculation about the health of the 79-year-old President.
"The president is in incredibly good health," Vance stated, emphasizing his belief that Trump will complete his term.
However, Vance noted that his current role has been the best form of preparation for possibly assuming the presidency if the situation arises.
"God forbid there's a terrible tragedy, I can't think of better on-the-job training than what I've gotten over the last 200 days," Vance remarked, being one of the youngest vice presidents in U.S. history.
Earlier this month, Trump described 41-year-old Vance as the "most likely" successor to his Make America Great Again (MAGA) movement, fueling speculation about Vance's prospects in the 2028 presidential race.
However, the vice president dismissed any ideas that he is already contemplating a run for the Oval Office.
Vance mentioned that he and his wife, Usha, are focused on his current duties, and "if that door opens later on, we'll figure it out then."
His comments come amidst growing concerns among Democrats regarding Trump's health and age. Trump is the oldest U.S. president to assume office, with questions about his fitness frequently raised by his opposition.
The president has consistently dismissed these concerns, insisting on his sustained energy and vigor.
In July, the White House reported that Trump is experiencing chronic venous insufficiency, a common vein condition, following speculation about photographs showing bruising on his hand.
White House physician Sean Barbabella described the condition as "benign and common," noting that the bruising was "consistent with minor soft tissue irritation from frequent handshaking."
